Safety Precautions for New-energy Vehicle Charging and Storage

2019.06.25

I. Charging Operation

1. Charging precautions:

a. Charging operation shall be carried out by the designated personnel who should go through the operation training before taking up the post.

         b. It is forbidden to move a charged vehicle during the charging process or carry out other operation without pulling out the charger.

         c. It is strictly forbidden for non-professionals to open the charger compartment door. It is forbidden to operate on the display screen with a sharp object.

2. For Emergencies:

        a. In case of abnormal sounds and smokes during the charging process, immediately cut off the power supply and contact professionals for treatment.

        b. For a fire in the charging place, use the powder extinguisher or carbon dioxide extinguisher to put it out.

         c. When the charger makes no response during operation, failure alarm occurs, the air switch protection is cut off or other operation abnormalities occur, immediately cut off the power supply and contact professionals for treatment.

II. Charger Maintenance

1.Routine maintenance work for the charger mainly includes:

          a. Check whether the fan works normally.

          b. Whether the charging connection wire is worn and whether the charge connector is firm and reliable.

          c. Whether dust deposits in the charger cavity.

         d. Whether the grounding cable is reliably grounded.

2. During routine maintenance, make sure that the main radiator fan (in the top of the charger) works normally; otherwise, timely notify the charger after-sales service for solutions. If the spool for the charging connection wire is damaged, timely replace it with a new one to protect the charging connection wire; if the charging connection wire is aged, replace it with a new wire. If the charge connector gets loose, fasten it in time. Regularly remove dust from the inside of the charger, prevent internal insulativity from degradation. It is recommended to clean the inside of the charger once every three months; in severe conditions, shorten the cleaning interval as required.

III. Vehicle Storage and Power Up/Down

To store the vehicle for more than one day or overnight, power it off in the following steps:

1. Turn off the key switch;

2. Turn off the 24 V hand switch;

3. Unplug the manual service disconnector: For the 7-ton chassis, cut off the manual service disconnector on one of the battery boxes; for the 3-ton chassis, cut off the manual service disconnector on the BMS high-voltage box.

For a stored vehicle to resume operation, power it up in the following steps:

1. Plug the manual service disconnector;

2. Turn on the 24 V hand switch;

3. Turn on the key switch. Check the instrument for fault warning information; if any, keep the fault information and contact the technician(s) for solutions.

For more specific information, refer to the maintenance manual for the vehicle and the charging pile.
